Where to worship Guanyin? Malaysia's Famous Guanyin Temples
The adage "Amitabha Buddha in every family; Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva (Guanyin) in every household" exemplifies the pervasive belief in Guanyin that has endured for centuries. Guanyin is regarded as one of the most revered deities in the Buddhist religion.
Guanyin is typically depicted with a dignified and benevolent countenance, often holding a willow vase. It is said that she possesses infinite wisdom, magical powers, and great mercy and compassion, which enable her to save people from disasters. In the event of a disaster, invoking her name has been known to result in salvation. This is the etymological origin of her title, Guanshiyin. Guanyin is the Bodhisattva who "listens to the voices of living beings in the world" and is one of the Four Great Bodhisattvas.
The 19th day of the 6th lunar month marks the occasion of Guanyin Bodhisattva's attainment of the bodhisattva state. It is widely believed that reciting the Buddha's name, chanting sutras, holding mantras and releasing live animals on this day are all acts of great merit and auspicious significance. Those seeking to pray for good health, good fortune, or the early fulfillment of their heart's desires may wish to take advantage of Guanyin's attainment by paying homage to the temples they frequent or those in their vicinity at specific times. These include 5-7 am, 9-11 am, and 3-7 pm.
Once a wish has been made to Guanyin, it is also possible to make a small donation or offer rice, which will increase the likelihood of being blessed by the Bodhisattva. When worshipping Guanyin, worshippers should endeavour to maintain a tidy and respectable appearance, avoiding unconventional or revealing attire and refraining from wearing all black, to avoid disrespecting Guanyin.
