Among the myriad of Buddhist deities and bodhisattvas, the best-known bodhisattva, Guanyin (the Goddess of Mercy), is the symbol of "great compassion, relieving suffering" and the embodiment of mercy.

The 19th day of the 2nd lunar month is the birthday of Guanyin, usually referred to as the day she incarnated as the third princess of King Miaozhuang of the Xinglin Kingdom, Miao Shan, but some people claim that she was Prince Miaoyan of the Liang Dynasty.

Guanyin is a Buddhist deity, and offerings to Guanyin are mainly vegetarian, with no alcohol or meat allowed. Many worshippers adopt the Guanyin vegan diet at the beginning of Guanyin's birthday month, for example, on Guanyin's birthday they follow the diet from the first day to the 19th day of the 2nd month to show their devotion.

Apart from going to temples to worship Guanyin, devotees can also make offerings to Guanyin at home. Keep the place where the statue of Guanyin is placed clean and tidy, place lotus lamps and offer incense and a glass of water ¾ full every day. It is recommended to place a chrysanthemum (marigolds, Yang on the left, Yin on the right) to the left of the statue to ensure longevity and peace.
