Gold and silver sausage is a type of cured meat in which fat pork is stuffed into a pig's liver. It is usually steamed for half an hour before use. It comes with a shiny appearance and is appetising, but a little greasy.
In ancient Guangdong, people worshipped the Kitchen God with gold and silver sausages hoping that during the New Year there will be both gold and silver, signifying prosperity.
